She should throw lots of sable points. This little rescue buck went off to a new home. After having been my emergency buck for a month, he found a new place to hang out. A 9 year boy was quite pleased with to meet him this morning. :)
I have found this to be an older male guinea pig issue, but I've heard it can involve younger guinea pigs as well. i don't make a regular practice of cleaning them out, but this video causes me to think I should keep a closer eye on things down there for my current boar. I have found this tends to be a problem with older male guinea pigs. I've never had it with younger, and not all guinea pigs develop this problem.
On this quiet Sunday evening I thought I'd browse the YouTube videos. Lots of rabbit videos on there. :) Saw a few on rabbit breeding, but most didn't show the actual deed being done. Finally found one that did. When the buck scratches at the doe a bit, he's trying to encourage her to move around. A doe who moves encourages the buck to breed with her.
Tell-tale signs of breeding. Buck mounts doe and then falls off usually with a grunt. It is a good idea to check her afterwards just to make sure the buck didn't miss. Sometimes they do. If he succeeds there will be a trace of semen on her vent (looks like a milky liquid). Generally speaking letting them mount twice is a good idea. I have gotten big litters with just one breeding, two is just insurance. It is assumed that before you let two rabbits breed that you have checked them of signs of health BEFORE breeding. - no snot - no abscesses - no weepy eye - no poor teeth - no vent disease - animals in good physical condition .. not too fat or too thin. - no sore hocks and so forth. You want to breed animals that are healthy, the very picture of health. Anything less is being unfair to the rabbit and not good for your breeding program. Because it's my blog and I can... I give you the world of Peter Rabbit. You have to admit, it is a fun story for children...and many an adult likes it too! :) First time mom Eureka gave birth to two healthy female pups today. One is very busy and talkative and the other very quiet like momma. Watch Me GrowMiss Marie Excellent brood doe, nice temperament, just a solid quiet die. Doe who recently died. In poor health, but still cared for her kits until I took them away. Now deceased. Her kits Miss Logos Her Kits - fostered with Marie's kits over to Biscuit Was fostering Biscuits kits instead. Has successfully fostered in the past. Miss Biscuit Her four kits - now deceased.... My temperamental doe who doesn't much like other rabbits. Raising eight holland lop kits. Last night was VERY cold out and she covered them up even more. Those kits were all extremely well fed this morning and then again this evening. I am so happy with my Biscuit. I'm very disappointed that I lost her kits as I had a fellow wanting to buy three of them but what can you do? He'll have to wait now. I am currently rather displeased with Logos.... I fostered Biscuits kits to her and she seemed fine with them. Was in and out of the box, sniffed them, let them be. overnight she decided to tear the nestbox apart and so all four of Biscuits kits up and froze to death. She did an extremely thorough job on tearing the box apart. This was my first failure in 9 years of raising rabbits with a foster situation. My mom-in-law asked... why didn't you just foster the wee ones from the sick doe over to Biscuit and leave the four of hers there too? 1. Biscuits kits were three times the size 2. mixing weak kits with strong generally not a good idea 3. Biscuit can raise eight, she can't raise 12 (I've tried and it just doesn't work for her). 4. I've never had a problem fostering before why would I expect I would this time? My first failure in fostering kits EVER. Miss Logos has one strike on her now and won't (if can ever be prevented) be used as a foster doe again. I knew she couldn't be trusted with older kits, but she's fostered wee babies in her past litter so....Anyways, that's one tear I won't be letting her go on again. |
AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
