Both came from one animal and ended up taking home two.
I was pleased, their people are pleased and life is good. :)
On July 13, 2012 Kimmon and Correa found new homes, as did two young male guinea pigs.
Both came from one animal and ended up taking home two. I was pleased, their people are pleased and life is good. :) Four kits born, first time mom.
three broken black, one broken chocolate. Normally Biscuit has 13 kits, today she had fourteen.
They are a whole gambit of colour and patterning. Henna's magpie kit with the one black spot on it's face found a new home tonight.
Her people asked TONS of questions FIRST I gave them my spiel. I showed them my handling of the bunnies, and how I make them as bomb proof as I can. Talked the importance of making the rabbit know that they are SAFE with you all the time. Carrying with something under the feet and covering the eyes, playing with the feet and figuring out what your bunny likes as a reward. Then I answered questions: 1. what type of bedding - pine, though aspen is good. the best bedding I've found is pine mixed with carefresh bedding. The manure is good for gardens, can be dumped in your compost or given to gardening friends. 2. how to litter train - hang hay in the corner you want them to do their business in and they should choose that corner to poop into. 3. what kind of treats - think green, think smart...one leaf.. not a whole head. - for holland lops nothing from the cabbage family 4. how and when to feed hay - generally every other day. 5. what types of greens - again, think green. lettuce, carrot tops, celery cut into small chunks, dandelions, grass, etc. 6. what to do if a bunny gets the runs - hay and oatmeal only for three days. 7. is it true they eat their own poops - yes, called cecaltrophes, they are night poops, it's like a cow chewing it's cud. 8. can we let it out in the yard - yes, though supervised runs tend to work better 9. can we give it the name ___________ - you may call the bunny whatever you wish to 10. what type of nail clippers to use - fingernail clippers until five months old, then small cat clippers work well 11. how often to trim the nails - once a month 12. what kind of food to feed - indoor bunny, Martin's little friends rabbit food. :) and so many more I took the time to answer each and every question and then sometimes answered them again. :) They were looking for a small bunny, I sent them home with one that should mature to no more than 3.5 lbs. That's a good size for a holland lop. One thing people always need to be on the alert for is arguments between young stock. I've been keeping Buttons and Lisa together (young harlequin does) and came out to the rabbitry this morning to see Lisa giving Buttons a hard time. So I immediately separated them. In the youngsters cage with Rena, Shayda etc... I've been noticing the Rena is getting rather bossy so I'll be separating them this morning as well. Instead of four in a cage I'll be doing groups of two. Rena and Jinx get along well yet so they will be housed together and Keener and Shayda will be together. Fortunately I've found placements for one young doe so switching bodies around isn't an issue. AND for Stormy. YIP YIP! so that's another cage open. I did cull to the freezer two young bucks this morning. They were the lightest of the five and I couldn't justify growing them out in the heat we've been having lately and since they've been doing the evil eye on on their companions lately it was just a matter of time before we had a fight and when young boys fight they do damage to each other fairly quickly..... so we've made some changes. Corrie is for sale. I've decided I don't need two light chins in the rabbitry and I can't justify keeping this young lady. $20 takes her home.
I need to keep revising who I keep in my herd. I decided with the harlequins simply NOT to keep the chocolates or the lilacs. Either you are a good blue or a good black or I'm simply not going to keep you. I'm going to breed for clean markings and decent type. Getting GOOD type in harlequins is a bit of a struggle but all one can do is persevere. :) To that end the following harlequins are for sale ATHP's StormyStormy is of breeding age. And she very much wants to be a mommy. This does' personality is to be a breeding doe, she is NOT a pet. Lovestruck's MilkshakeShake is a decent young doe. She will be a breeding age/size in another month or so. She's a nicely mannered young doe and should do well as a pet or as a breeding rabbit. ATHP's LemLem is a hugely sweet boy. He is very shy, easy with the ladies, and just a pleasant young rabbit. This picture does not do him justice and I really need to update it.
As you all know, August had four pups born last week.
Today I found the white-ist one UNDER the guinea pig cage. It is quite small. In it's struggle it had dug quite the little hole around itself. No trail leading to that hole. No wire broken MOST of the holes are less than 1 inch. This is a fully wired cage. not wired great, but wired sufficient to hold piggies and the odd rabbit. It seems fine, though rather smooshed looking. Will give him a good check over in the morning once the dents have a chance to "undent". Once I got him out (which took some maneuvering to do with out causing damage (cage is HEAVY) and set down he wobbled twice and then ran squeaking to momma. |
AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
