Frankie, who has been playing hard to get this entire winter, finally decided that she wanted to be momma again. She built a humongous nest and deposited four kits within. One unfortunately was DOA, but the other three are thriving. Looks like harlequin and tricolour.

Litter of three, confined within a HUGE nest of fur (plus tons outside the nestbox). Dandi is proving to be a very nice young doe though she is a bit on the skittish side. I had someone ask on Facebook why I did a mixed breeding. My Dutch buck is on the shy side and takes his time wooing the ladies. AND if a doe is on the skittish side gets very quiet and sits in the corner. So then I'd normally leave them together for a week which settles them down. BUT Dandi does not share space well. She's a self-contained lass who doesn't like other bunnies too close to her. (hence her slight skittishness). So I introduced her to all my boys and she thought Wasp was the cat's meow so ... we now have kits off Dandi for a first time litter. Sometimes you gotta do what the ladies request eh? We have one broken black, one solid black and one black with a white nose and white foot. Watch Me GrowMy first ever litter of dutch babies are finally here. Sabre is an experienced mom. She made a lovely nest with seven wee ones in it. She's doing a good job. Watch Me GrowThis was a "make do" litter. Zigzag desperately wanted to have kidlets, and Saddle wasn't interested... so Bradley was!
Unfortunately, Zigzag couldn't figure out the use of a nestbox or desired to pull fur so her litter of seven didn't pull through. We'll give her another go as first time moms sometimes have oopsies. I have to focus on the good. She cleaned them really well and had no difficulties with delivery. Berry found her way into a pet home in Goderich this morning.
Berry is a non-pedigreed Netherland Dwarf that I picked up in Goderich on a snowy day just before a supper out for my hubby's work. We had a lovely meal and I got to enjoy a lovely bunny. She's been an excellent momma over the years, but since I'm moving on to breeding Dutch bunnies, I've decided to retire my dwarf bunnies. Berry is a quiet lass who tends to prefer to come to people on her own terms. She eats everything offered to her. This young rabbit, a dwarf bunny, is a son of Berry and Alecks. Born on October 5, 2023 as part of a group of four. Colours in the litter consisted of Chocolate Otter, Chocolate, Blue, Pointed, and Broken blue. This young man is I think a broken blue, though sometimes I think he's a broken lilac.
He is a generous hearted young rabbit and I think he'll mature into being like his gregarious, happy-go-lucky pops. A good natured boy that should make his new people quite happy. He doesn't handle melon well but loves a wide variety of other produce. Hay, pellets, and mixed grains are always welcome as well. Just overall, an easy keeper. October 5 is the birthdate for these two boys, children of Berry and Alecks. They are dwarf bunnies. The chocolate I expect to finish around 2 lbs, the chocolate otter at about 2.5.
Part of a litter of six, these boys have the colours of chocolate and chocolate otter. Siblings included blue, charlie blue, black otter and pointed white. Of the two, the chocolate otter is a bit bigger and is the bolder, more interactive. The chocolate tends to be quieter, more like his momma. They don't do well eating too much melon but otherwise loves everything offered to them. These October 5th babies from Frankie and Caper moved into their new homes today.
These young holland lops are part of a litter for four girls. Two which are black/orange tricolours, and two black/orange harlequins. Girl 1 is a black-orange tricolour, and girl 3 is a black-orange harlequin. They are very similar to each other. I expect girl 3 to be a gregarious bunny much like her daddy, and girl 1 to be a kind, but serious lass like her momma. October 5 is the birthdate for this fine little boy. Admittedly, for the first four weeks I thought he was a she! BUT HEY! Boys will sometimes be a bit slow showing off. A dwarf boy born to Berry and Alecks.
Part of a litter of six, this boys' colour is blue. Siblings included chocolate, chocolate otter, charlie blue, black otter and pointed white. He's a very sweet boy, curious, and quick to run to say hi to his people. He doesn't do well eating too much melon but otherwise loves everything offered to him. This October 5th baby from Frankie and Caper moved into a rabbit familiar home. She's a holland lop.
She's part of a litter for four girls. Two which are black/orange tricolours, and two black/orange harlequins. This girlie is a sweet-natured girl with a slightly fuzzy texture to her coat. I expect she'll grow up to be a lot like her momma. A kind girlie with a big heart and sure determination. |
AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
