This Rodney. He comes from a fellow breeder. He was a rescue in that the breeder had a major overstock issue and asked if I could do something with his rabbits. Rodney won the specialty show today. BOB, BOB He was in three shows today 1/3, 2/3. 2/3. Rodney is a shorter, more cobby buck than William so I expect them to balance each other out quite nicely. ONE of those rabbits went to a brand new breeder and Amanda got three legs on her today. Shaya came in second in the specialty show. She received good comments from every judge she was under today. She's a four month old polish doe. BOSV, BOS. She was the only junior doe being shown today, and lost out only because she still had some of her baby coat on her. Judges all mentioned she's a good addition to my herd. This is my main boy William. He received his final leg toward his GC today. BOV, BOB. I'm quite pleased with how he did overall.
First show he was DQ'd for a broken nail. 3/3, then 1/3. Then he received honourable mention during the Best in Show judging. The judges really like his bold eye and his head. They fault him slightly on his forehead, but overall just like his head a great deal. :) They also always mention that they like his colour and coat. He overall is just a good boy to have around, THOUGH he is at the maximum weight allowed for his breed. He balances well with Mittens and Rodney in my herd. i had this up on my home page and have removed it as the new show season has begun.
Just back from the Rockton show. November 17, 2012 I took five rabbits, four polish, one harlequin William did 1/4 (BOSV), 2/4. 2/4 (his competition was a delightful broken black that was very pretty) Petey did 6/6. 5/6. 6/6 - he's quite a young senior and the others had filled out better. QT did 2/5. 3/5. 3/5 (she had some stiff competition - the top three positions were different each time) and no one liked Keener at all today. She got lots of good comments about her head, but her fur was absolutely horrid - splotchy and out of condition that she just wasn't in her best form. I have just gotten back from the Dorchester Show. Keener won best opposite polish for Show B William won best opposite polish for Show A and Varia WON best polish for Show A I'll have to update how the others did... but WOOT WOOT!!! I'm quite pleased. :) On Saturday, Hubby and I will be heading up to Meaford. There's a rabbit show up that way. Hosted by the Kitchener rabbit club. I"ll be bringing three, possibly four rabbits. I am hoping to get another leg on William.
Hopeful to get a leg on Shaya, and I have absolutely no clue with Rodney. He does NOT like to sit still. So I don't know if the judges will even like him or not. I was reading this article this morning and thought it to be quite intriguing.
If I could find a place to set it up, I think I'd look into doing it for the buns. This morning I went yard-saling. (that's when you go around to yard sales and find deals). I found a pressure washer. It works! $30 well spent. So this afternoon I got half of the rabbit cages all washed. A job that used to take me half hour per cage takes me 5-10 minutes now. Pretty cool eh? :) Sent two rabbits on to their new homes today. Keener and Abuntay moved to their new homes today. They are heading off to a new breeder of polish. Hopefully they will do well for her. Both Keener and Abuntay are hopefully preggers as well which will help give her a good start.
If I could figure out a way to make these work, I would get them. I just don't know how to make them work for me.
Mini Cup Automatic Waterers. It's been a busy week, got LOTS done. The guinea pigs have been moved outside! WOOT WOOT. All except for Kettle. She's too young to go with the boar yet. I've been rotating the girls as to who gets to stay inside with her. Amazingly none of them are volunteering...they want to be outside munching on lovely delicious grass all day long... not babysitting the baby. :) Ah well... they will survive. This of course meant that Miss Peek-a-mommy had to give up her outdoors digs so she's now moved inside again. She's somewhat unimpressed by this. Giving her a ton of fresh cut grass today helped to make up for that though. AeroBar has moved back to his original home. Jim has kinda given up on getting his does to breed to his blue-eyed white buck they kept refusing him, so he said I gotta get these does bred so he asked if he could buy him back. I said sure. I'm hoping i didn't jump the gun as I don't know if Beethoven is fertile yet, I'm just hoping he is. :) What else? Oh! I'm getting my garden planted. the buns will be happy with these leftovers: carrots, swiss chard, spinach, prickly lettuce, basil, various lettuces, radish greens, turnip greens and so much more. :)
Oh and today I brought my Slippers home. Slip spent the winter in cosy comfort at a friends house. She wasn't appreciating the cold winter all that much as she is my oldest girlie. She's now home and safely living in her old/new digs. It's good to have her home again. :) |
AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
