I've had my first significant success at a rabbit show.
My buns took BOB and BOS, with another taking BOSV. Three legs!!!

I am so happy. I've had my first significant success at a rabbit show. My buns took BOB and BOS, with another taking BOSV. Three legs!!! I won $20 which helps with fees paid. My Winners14 kits were produced by Lem and Biscuit.
It's hard to believe but Biscuit is even more mellow with this litter in her big cage then she was before. It's such a very very nice change. These folks are a bit "in your face" but their points are valid. Rabbits are cute, AND they have the bonus of being a valuable food source.
I'm not sure about their caging system....the racks are built based on the idea of ample water flow to keep the rabbits clean and if push came to shove (with a hard time need to have food/water scenario) we might not actually have GOOD water flow. The Hostile Hare. This is William, senior buck, might be too long in the shoulder, ears are mostly decent but not perfect. Overall seems a good buck. I don't like Jinx's ears, but I like her overall. We'll see how she does. have to admit, Keener is one of my favourite does. I love her attitude. Not sure about her ears, but she's a solid little rabbit. Petey is a compact young rabbit who is non-stop motion. We'll see how this lad does. I really haven't been able to judge him well. He may slow down enough at a strange place for a judge to check him out though. Kat is a very quiet doe. I really don't know how she'll do. She's a young senior and needs to fill in a bit yet. Varia is just under being a senior (still a junior) so we'll see how she goes. She's a compact girlie so I think her shoulders are good, she's a tad narrow on the back -end, so we'll see what the judges say. Miss Q is the baby of the bunch. Really not sure how she'll do against older juniors but I've seen babies pull it off before, so we'll see what happens. The lone Harlequin. Harold has a decent three part front, his back half leaves much to be desired, but I wanted ONE harle to show and he's the best I got this year. :) He won't win, but he might surprise me yet.
I am pleased that Sally survived, disappointed her kits did not.
Sally is a young doe who was not meant to get preggers. Her cagemate "Naomi" turned into a "Nicholas". I had hoped he was too young to breed when I found out, but to be on the safe side I had given her a nesting box. Three dead kits. All solid black. As you can see in the photos I have a dirt floor in the rabbitry. There are pros and cons to having a dirt floor.
PROS 1. it's VERY forgiving 2. seeing worms coming up at night or early in the morning...it's just cool seeing how quickly they zip back into their holes...and it's a hoot listening to the boy laugh when he catches two tangled together mating. 3. spills don't seem as important on the dirt as it's easily raked and the remaining stuff just blends in. CONS 1. dirt shifts and moves and requires supports under wood racks to keep them from sinking in. 2. it's dirt, doesn't look as clean and tidy 3. when it rains it gets wet and sometimes slippery. Today I moved everything out of the old tent (isolation tent). This tent I bought about four years ago. It was only meant to last a year but I stretched the tarp to four years by double tarping it in winter.
But this year it was SO done. It had large holes in it and just needed to be put to rest. So I removed things and hubby dearest helped me put up the new one. This one is supposed to last four at least two years So I'm expecting I'll be able to stretch it for a spell as well (at least I really really hope so). :) I'll get some pics tomorrow of it. it will be a hotter tent then the other one due to it being a dark colour, but I'm hoping to figure out how to keep it somewhat colour next summer if I'm needing to keep any stock in there. I now offer an optional package with my bunnies.
what you get is :
This does not change what you normally get with a rabbit
As mentioned this is optional. So far it has been received well. Five kits born, looks to be four black magpies and one blue/lilac magpie. Time will tell for sure. Good litter for a first time mom Splash.

AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
