Sprite and Rena produced six bouncing kits at 630 a.m. it was rather cool. I got to see them as soon as they were born. :)
Rena may not be the best looking Holland Lop out there, but she's a very good solid doe and the most excellent mother. :) I would to change her head/ears a bit, but otherwise she a good doe. Petey and Sally produce a singleton kit today. it's been fostered over to E. Rosie as one kit can't survive in the fall/winter.
E.Rosie is a somewhat reluctant breeder but she is a very calm, shy, unflappable young doe. I find that running her with a buck for three days is the best solution for her. Popper is a sweet, quiet boy and excellent boy to put with a shy doe as he is determined but not overly pushy.
Together they produced three babies. Two brokens, one DOA peanut. Temp and Tanner produced two female pups. Both are tricolour, both have pink eyes. Both will be sold in three weeks. :) Their pups. Both female. Both doing really well.
Rabbit Farming in HaitiI thought this one was neat. Texas Professor Teaches Rabbit Farming In Haiti. Haiti is not a country that is very well-off. It's been hit by political unrest, poverty, natural disasters and what not. Finding enough food for people to eat is rather important. From the article: The project's aim is to help numerous impoverished residents in Haiti — the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere — by training them to build their own rabbit hutches and raise rabbits as a source of meat and extra income for families, many of whom still live in tent cities. New England Cottontails 9 endangered rabbits sent to NH. see quote below: -- Nine rabbits considered an endangered species in New Hampshire are now calling the state home. How Rabbits can Save the World.Have to admit, when I saw this heading I thought... how can rabbits save the world? If you want to learn more.. go here. here's a glimpse. It is a fact universally acknowledged that rabbits reproduce at a rapid rate. But did you know that rabbit meat is kosher, halal and acceptable for Hindus who decline beef for religious reasons? All of that is good news for the world-wide war on hunger—if bad news for bunnies. This son of Oreo and William found his new home today. He'll be living up in Goderich and may or may not turn out to be show rabbit.
He's looking good at this age and has good breeding behind him. Biscuit and Lem's daughter found a home out in Dorchester. My boar Tipper has found new digs out in Norwich. The pic above was his baby pic. I know I have others of him, but currently can't locate them. (probably got into the wrong file). My boar has found new digs out in Norwich. Billie's daughter has a home in London now, making two children happy.
Miss Beamer did everything the way she should have. Made a nice nest, kindled in it, took care of her kit.
BUT the problem with breeding in cold weather is singleton kits simply do not survive. Came out to one dead kit. Varia wasn't due until the 12th. She decided to have babies unexpectedly today. We have three. All look to be chocolate based at this point. She had three kits. It was actually rather cool. This morning I noted she wanted a nestbox (and since I had planned to give her one that was no biggie)...but then she was all confused about it so I gave her two so she took the straw from one and put it in the other. Went to the house, did dishes, came back out to collect a guinea pig and said ACK!!! she's had babies and didn't pull fur! So I quickly rescued the three kits and made a nest. Pulled a kit from no-name doe to help keep them warm. Gave them some of my saved fur and life is good. Wasn't God good in his timing there? I"m just amazed at how he reminds me to just trust him. the babies Lost the dark one, the smaller of the two brokens isn't looking very strong this morning. They've been fostered to Scotch in order to stay good and warm.

AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com.
