Veterinarian Care

I will list vets here as I find them or have the information sent to me.  I neither endorse them nor am I responsible for any actions they may or may not take.  Listing known rabbits vets is merely a service I am offering to you.    If they are personable and helpful on the phone, I consider that a first step to finding a good vet.  But good customer service doesn't always imply good vet care either.

Do recognize that vets vary in their pricing on what they charge to do a spay/neuter on animals.

Generally speaking rabbits should be in line with what it costs to do a cat.  If you don't like the price quoted, call around to see what other vets are charging.

Rabbits are considered an exotic animal because they have specialized care.  Many medications they cannot take as it will upset their systems, but a knowledgeable vet can give your rabbit excellent care.

Finding a good rabbit vet is important

Many city/town vets specialize in doing small animal care...meaning primarily seeing cats and dogs.   Some of the larger clinics will have people who specialize in birds and Exotics.   Exotics include rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, hedgehogs, sugar gliders and the like.

So if your vet is unfamiliar with treating rabbits you rabbit could end up being treated incorrectly, which could lead to really bad results for you and your pet.

Rabbits are hindgut fermentors, similar to horses and and so their bodies are quite different than that of cats or dogs.

They react to medications in entirely different ways.

So you MUST take your rabbit to a vet  who has EXPERIENCE in treating rabbits and has a good knowledge of rabbit anatomy and treatment.

Be sure to search around and find a good vet ahead of time, so when emergencies do come up with your rabbit,  you will know where to go and not have to waste time searching around.    Below are the vets that I know of as of December 2012.
