These two girls, born Dec 20 off Corbin and Marie, will be sharing their new home with an older rabbit who has been missing her partner who died. Pet home in London.
Miss Marie Excellent brood doe, nice temperament, just a solid quiet die. Doe who recently died. In poor health, but still cared for her kits until I took them away. Now deceased. Her kits Miss Logos Her Kits - fostered with Marie's kits over to Biscuit Was fostering Biscuits kits instead. Has successfully fostered in the past. Miss Biscuit Her four kits - now deceased.... My temperamental doe who doesn't much like other rabbits. Raising eight holland lop kits. Last night was VERY cold out and she covered them up even more. Those kits were all extremely well fed this morning and then again this evening. I am so happy with my Biscuit. I'm very disappointed that I lost her kits as I had a fellow wanting to buy three of them but what can you do? He'll have to wait now. I am currently rather displeased with Logos.... I fostered Biscuits kits to her and she seemed fine with them. Was in and out of the box, sniffed them, let them be. overnight she decided to tear the nestbox apart and so all four of Biscuits kits up and froze to death. She did an extremely thorough job on tearing the box apart. This was my first failure in 9 years of raising rabbits with a foster situation. My mom-in-law asked... why didn't you just foster the wee ones from the sick doe over to Biscuit and leave the four of hers there too? 1. Biscuits kits were three times the size 2. mixing weak kits with strong generally not a good idea 3. Biscuit can raise eight, she can't raise 12 (I've tried and it just doesn't work for her). 4. I've never had a problem fostering before why would I expect I would this time? My first failure in fostering kits EVER. Miss Logos has one strike on her now and won't (if can ever be prevented) be used as a foster doe again. I knew she couldn't be trusted with older kits, but she's fostered wee babies in her past litter so....Anyways, that's one tear I won't be letting her go on again. Remember that Marie had those awful big kits and had lost a lot of blood? She is not doing well. Her kits have been removed to another doe (Biscuit is raising the holland lop kits and Logos is raising Biscuits remaining four).
Things aren't looking good. This makes me sad...she's been a good solid doe for me. i expected Miss Marie here to kindle yesterday, though in reality I really didn't expect her to. She hadn't shown any signs of pregnancy or nestbox desires. She hadn't appeared to gain weight either. She was just a regular old eating machine. This morning I walked into the rabbitry to discover massive amounts of blood under her cage. She acted fine other than being aggressive with her cage neighbour (out of character for this calm lass)..but she was wanting food and pets and water and seemed happy otherwise. I kept an eye on her all through chores and thought I'd watch her throughout the morning. After breakfast I found her in the process of kindling. She had six kits. Four are massive (one of those four was dead) and two normal sized kits. One was barely breathing so we snuggled him into a warm nest. 5 minutes later he was looking much better, we'll see what he's like in the morning. And here's why you keep fur...any clean fur you can. Marie did not pull a wick of fur for her kits. I bundled them up in fur from other rabbits...some from Sarge as well as he moults heavily and requires brushing out. Watch Me GrowHamilton area youth breeder picked up these two youngsters yesterday. We had a bit of a talk. I hope she does well with these two. I told her they were good starter bunnies. Advised her to always breed for health.

Four kits born early evening. I thought she'd have more than four, but am happy that she kindled these ones. :) Watch me Grow
Today was a rather busy day.
Lots to do. The lad was BORED STIFF, but was rewarded for good behaviour by getting a new nerf gun. Sold Bunny poo, Bunnies, attended a meeting for the rabbit club, did some shopping, met a lady and talked snakes, shot the breeze with some other bunny people. All in all, a fair good day for me, but the lad was tired and bored and needing to do something fun....had a nerf gun fight when we got home. |
AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
