Tort girl was born June 30 to Webb and Timer, part of a litter of six. A happy gregarious girl with a penchant for trouble. :)
Tricolour girl was born June 17 to Pria and Arrow, part of a litter of four. A quiet lass who is first to say hi to me in the mornings.

Kiki is a June 17 kit from Pria and Arrow, Everest is a July 15 kit from Beauty and Arrow. So they are half-sibs in a way! :) Anyways, their owners (mom and child) met me at the Honda dealership yesterday as I was in for a service there.
Kiki has never been a strong kit but in the last week he surprised me by growing! He is now the same size as Everest and really enjoys eating! I was delighted to see him come along so nicely. He was part of a litter of four. Everest is a quiet lass. part of a litter of seven. A lovely youngster who should do well in her new home. These three boys Thunder, Thomas and Jerry are off to the same home. The two boys above (Thunder and Thomas) are brothers off Elly and Timer. Born June 30. Part of a litter of six. This little guy has show potential. A nice young fellow out of a litter of four from Gracie and Arrow. He was born June 29. These two GirlsThese two girlies went to two separate homes. Both are off Elly and Timer. Born June 30. Out of a litter of six. This latter girl is Penelope. At last report
She got all settled in and is finally relaxing now (went to check on her and she was flopped). She ate some parsley I gave her to help her tummy since she hasn't pooped yet. Hopefully that helps She's pretty nervous about getting pet right now (gave me a big thump when I tried hahaha!) so I'm just leaving her alone to calm down and relax some more :) I can already tell she's going to have a big personality!!! Her new person is absolutely correct, she will have a mind of her own, but will settle with time. This is the one I think S is interested in, but bunnies change so not entirely sure anymore. :) Still living with mom. Two and three are living together Four, Five and Six are living together.
I can't remember if I wanted to repeat this breeding, or if Pria just has a fondness for Arrow (it happens). But ... we have three kits! They are big kits and I'm contemplating fostering Shen's kits over as she's a bit of a lazy feeder. Or even alternating them every other day as Pria produces lots of milk for her kits and is a brood-sized doe. Watch Me GrowShen is a hard-bodied little doe and I wanted to put her with Timer hoping to get hard-bodied, short kits with a tad more width. Anyways, Shen had four light coloured babies in a tidy, compact nest. Since Timer is a fairly light buck I expect them all to be tricolour, but surprises can be good too! :) Watch Me GrowBefore I get into all the S rabbits of the world I have to tell you about this odd rabbit that I learned about. Sauteur D'alfort rabbits of France have a genetic mutuation that causes them to walk in their front paws. Sometimes it's a "I want to go fast" thing, and other time they just "walk" to get from point a to point b. The Smithsonian has an interesting article on these unique rabbits. "Now, on to discovering the S rabbits of the world. I can think of Silvers, Satins, Silver Fox, Silver Martens, and the standard Chinchilla. And there's also the Satin Angora. Satins are an American breed, recognized both in the US and in the UK. They have somewhat different standards. In North America they are an approximately 10 lb rabbit, with a classic commerical build which comes in a variety of coat colours. Silvers, are also recognized in both the UK and the USA. In North America, Silvers are a 4-6 lb rabbit. They date back to the 1500's and are thought to have come from Portugal. They have a dense flyback fur coat. The rabbit is "primarily brown, fawn or brown, and intertwined in its fur are white guard hairs, which give the Silver rabbit a beautiful silvery luster." I admittedly get a bit confused between the silver and the silver fox. The Silver Fox another old breed of rabbit, but was developed in the United States. A large breed rabbit that weights 11-12 lbs, with silvering starting at 4 weeks of age. This rabbit is blue or black in colouration with silvering. The Standard Chinchilla. I happen to love the chinchilla colour on rabbits and this is a breed that I have often wanted to have. A well put together meat rabbit with this silver agouti look is a wonderful animal to behold. I was delighted when this year I produced this colour in one of my holland lops. Now Chia pictured below is NOTHING compared to the Standard Chin. They are a 6-8 lb rabbit hailing from France, they have bigger cousins in the American and Giant Chinchilla's so basically there's a size for everyone! :) The Standard Chin is a compact rabbit with rollback fur and erect ears The Silver Marten is a pretty rabbit. They come in black, blue, chocolate and Sable. You'll have to check them out! These rabbits weigh 9.5 lbs and come to us by way of France. "S" rabbits new to meThe San Juan rabbit was developed in the United States. I don't know a whole lot about this rabbit other than what I hear on the meat rabbit board. It's often used as a bait rabbit due to it's similar characteristics with cottontails. In some states it's illegal to keep them. The Siberian rabbit was originally developed in the 1930's for use in the fur trade. The short, dense fur mainly come in blue, brown with a pearl gray undercoat, black with a blue undercoat, and lilac. It is a docile breed weighing 5-8 lbs. Egypt gives us the Simennwar rabbit, This is a dwarf breed weighing 2.5-3 lbs. Unsurprisingly the Slovenian rabbit, a 7-11 lb rabbit comes from Slovenian. It's coat has a yellowish-brown undercoat overlain with blue. The tail and belly are white. The smoke pearl rabbit has erect ears, weighs 5-7 lbs and comes in a specific colour. You can see a rabbit vary similar to it here on pinterest. Scotland claims the creativity. The Spanish Giant has flemish giant as part of it's origins, which came from Spain. A large rabbit weighing 12-15 lbs. They only live up to 6 years and are currently facing extinction. The Stone rabbit from Belgium is an agouti rabbit in red, grey and steel. It weighs around 6 lbs. This is part of the blogging through the alphabet challenge. You can find the linky.

Just two kits in the litter, both boys were fostered to Webb as momma (first time trial) had no clue what to do with her babies. The otter is the smaller of the two, a nice easy-going kit. The chestnut likes to sit up pretty and is the more serious of the two. This June 30th girl off Elly and Timer made her way into a new home. A gal inquired about Cherry's kits but then asked if the hollands were still available. She was delighted that this young lady was still around.
They will see if she can be a companion to their other female rabbit, and if not, make sure she has her own space to hang out in. A sweet young bunny who is friendly, enjoys her food and takes her time getting to know you.. Isn't he a handsome dude?
Tori took him into her herd. I thought he was a lovely boy, but he tended to throw soft-coated littles and I wasn't too fond of that. Hopefully he won't do that in his new home. Sept 6th boy out of Calypso and BandAid. |
AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
