Komoka Show 2017

10/15/2017

Once again the Forest City Rabbit Club put on a good show.  Over 350 rabbits entered!  A cavy show on the side, an excellent raffle table, and a food booth unlike any I've seen at other rabbit shows.  :)   I even entered a holland lop (been a LONG LONG time since I've shown a holland lop).
Picture
So what was good about this show?
Check out the raffle table!  Books, pies, cavy stuff, rabbit stuff, blankets, a rabbit, a cavy and even some canaries!  We even had a saddle up for raffle!
Picture
A great youth show, run by the youth, two 4H clubs doing their final assessments. I met a lot of great youth and their parents.
The Cavy Show!   I saw from funky looking pigs, observed a sow and litter class, and people happy to share the joy that is guinea pigs.
I saw rabbits I wasn't very familiar with like sable, thriantra, silver, and tort dutch.  I saw rabbits i was very familiar with like holland lops, mini rex, flemish, polish, jersey woolies and more.   I almost was convinced to get back into Harlequin rabbits again... saw "Igor" who just stole my heart. :)   oh.. and TRICOLOUR standard rex.. be still my heart they are SO GORGEOUS!!!!!
I didn't take a picture of the beef soup I had for lunch.  :)  Should have, it was decently good.   Around me was a lot of chatter...the angora folk blowing out coats, guinea pig people chattering away, people coming to purchase bunnies, youth wondering around seeing new breeds and exclaiming over them, and so much more.  It was interesting, at times overwhelming, but good.  It was good. :)
Picture
Oh, How did my OtterLily do at the show?
Three shows, six rabbits each class.  first class dq overweight, second show 3rd, third show fifth.   Good head, lacks depth, good width, decent coat.
Picture
So... anyone have a buck I can use with some depth??  :)

Forest City Rabbit Show, July 2, 2016

7/3/2016

Picture
Yesterday we had a lovely day for a rabbit show.  Not to hot, and definitely not too cold... couldn't have asked for much better in the way to temperatures actually.  :)

Anyways, let me walk you through a bit of what we offered at this show

Easy check in and results area.
Picture
Picture
I absolutely LOVE this... all the rabbits for sale are in one area, and raffle tables are right next door.  Having all the available rabbits in one area is completely wonderful.  No trying to figure out what's available, or having to search through where people are sitting.  I wish more clubs did this.   Two folks stayed in the area to keep an eye on things.
Picture
We had four more serious youth classes:
Conformation, Pet Rabbit, Judging and Showmanship.   I regret that I didn't get a picture of the Judging class winners.
Picture
Fun classes:
Colouring, longest ears, biggest ear span, longest fur, shortest fur, best trick, Best dressed and so forth.   It's a good day...
Picture
Some booth set ups
Picture
What else is good about the show?
Green space to set up agility equipment.  :)
Picture
Green space with tents and shade and a food booth.  Tables and chairs to have a comfortable sitting area.
Picture
And airy show space
Picture
Betty Fletcher and her family did a most excellent job.   Providing good food.   Lots of free space to spread our wings and enjoy each other's company (good for both the introverts and extroverts among us).  Room to have a good youth show, good air space for the wooled breeds, tons of shelter and sun.   Just what we all need.

Here's to next year!  :)

Introduction to showing rabbits

5/9/2015

Thought this a good introduction to showing rabbits.  :)

News

6/29/2014

So Forest City Rabbit Club had a show yesterday.  :)   It went well I think.
Lots of people.   Three good judges.  My son enjoyed the children's judging and pet show so that was good.

I brought Benito.  He was the only broken senior buck so he won all his classes.  :)  He was consistently beaten by older seniors. :)   Got good comments, generally just needs to fill out more.

I brought Gena.  She was consistently beaten in her class of two by an older more developed senior doe.    Received good comments, just needs to fill out more.

Gaylin "shows promise"

Rizzo "shows promise".

So time will tell eh?  :)

Ranger is off to a new home.   I traded him for a "to come" holland lop doe.   Ranger and Xena were part of the children's judging class.  Three Solid Chocolate animals for the children to look over.

Back from Rockton

11/16/2013

Picture
Basic got really good comments from one of the judges.  He really thought this young doe has lots of potential. :)  She came in first in two of her three classes.
Picture
Peter/Tommy Tit either has a genetic deformity in one leg OR he was injured when he was a kit.  not sure.  If you look for it you can feel it.   Cowhocked and damaged.   I'm hoping a birth injury, but if genetic will not be staying here.   Glad he's a loaner rabbit , not a have to keep or cull rabbit.
Picture
Miss Q constantly came in 6/8 in all three classes.   She got great comments on her head, but her body needs some improving.   Her coat was not in particularly great shape either.
Picture
Vena is just a baby and as such got baby comments.  Good colour, good pattern, should have good potential.  One judge liked her quite a bit but her competition was older and in better position to be judged well.
Picture
Shaya did what she was supposed to.   Fill out a class a bit more, she came in 8/8, 5/8 and 8/8.  And came home and was promptly in the mood to be bred.  Just what I was hoping for.  :)
Picture
Georgia did 7/8, 4/8 and 2/8.  I was quite pleased with that.   I find it amazing how different judges can see the same group of animals. :)

I spent most of the day clerking as a lady who had been clerking wanted to spend time with her child who was judging and showing in a class.

Forest City Rabbit Show, Komoka 2013

6/29/2013

Well, today the Forest City Rabbit Club had it's first ever rabbit show.

We had fun.  :)  Seriously, it was an excellent day to spend with rabbit folks.   Excellent Venue, lots of positive comments, good conversation, and just an overall nice time.  :)   Judges were John Richter, Kyle Yacobucci, and Joe Collucci.   I've not shown under Joe before and found him to be a precise, point by point judge.   Kyle did the youth and Mini Rex specialty.   I'm fairly used to how John judges.  :)

It was rather cool, the Middlesex County 4H agility club came out and demonstrated doing agility with their rabbits.    The Ilderton 4H rabbit club came out and did  judging and showmanship with their rabbits.   My son was VERY intrigued and I'm hoping to get him working on training a bunny to do some jumps/agility type of work.  The Dorchestor Fair is apparently doing a rabbit agility class at Thanksgiving. :)

We had somewhere around 175 entries for the show - 88 mini rex, 22 polish, a bunch of angoras, and a host of other breeds... even some havanas, silvers and another breed I can't recall the name of but isn't often seen at shows.  So it was rather cool.
Picture
click on image to be taken to the National Silver club. This pic from their website, taken by Jann Hall.
My son saw Brittania Petites for the first time and was quite captivated by them.  He learned that they are a very nippy breed though, and so I told him we won't get any, but should HE want to get some when he's old enough to handle them himself he is more than welcome to do so. :)   The Brittania took Best In Show for show A.  Very nice little rabbit.

Who I Brought

Picture
Pepper, pictured above, won her individual classes.  Best of 2 in each class with favourable comments received by both judges.  Pepper is going to spend the summer with Legacy Rabbitry.  :)
Picture
Shaya, didn't do as well in this show as she did in the last one.  She came in 3/3 in both shows.
Picture
Val, an early April kit, came in first of two in both her classes.  She's a nice junior doe and I think she'll do well.  Both judges commented that she's a bit pinched in the face, I don't know if she'll grow out of that or not.  But overall they liked her and just wish she were more compact as a doe.
Picture
Acorn I had brought along just to give a wee bit of challenge to Heather who brings along a couple of holland lops each show.  I'm hoping to encourage other folks to bring out their holland lops, even if they aren't torts, to show them.   IF we don't keep trying, there's not much point in it eh?    I didn't expect her to win, but I got better comments on her than I expected.   Her crown needs work (but give her time and it will come in better). :)
Picture
This is Spot On.  He was the only harlequin shown today.  He won both of his classes.  :)    Judges liked his face/three way split.  Commented on his colour being a bit off and needing more banding.   But that wasn't anything I didn't already know. They commented on how he had a decent body, and okay type.  :)   It's good to hear that the bodies on my Harlequins is appreciated. :)

Rabbits bred, owned by others

Comments from Amanda about the show.   She is the new owner of Mitch, and I've sold her most of the rabbits that she currently owns.  Most are doing well for her.  Mitch did BOB in one show, and Jax did fairly well as well.

Lindsay who just purchased Rodney and Varia from me did well with them today.   She's over at Country View Rabbitry.    From what I recall both of these rabbits got BOV/BOSV but I could be remembering wrong.  I'm fairly sure they did well though.  I know Varia beat out Val though in one of the shows.  :)

News from the Meaford Show, May 11, 2013

5/11/2013

Picture
This Rodney.
He comes from a fellow breeder.  He was a rescue in that the breeder had a major overstock issue and asked if I could do something with his rabbits.

Rodney won the specialty show today.   BOB, BOB
He was in three shows today 1/3, 2/3. 2/3.

Rodney is a shorter, more cobby buck than William so I expect them to balance each other out quite nicely.

ONE of those rabbits went to a brand new breeder and Amanda got three legs on her today.
Picture
Shaya came in second in the specialty show.   She received good comments from every judge she was under today.  She's a four month old polish doe.   BOSV, BOS.   She was the only junior doe being shown today, and lost out only because she still had some of her baby coat on her.  Judges all mentioned she's a good addition to my herd.
Picture
This is my main boy William.   He received his final leg toward his GC today.   BOV, BOB.    I'm quite pleased with how he did overall.
First show he was DQ'd for a broken nail.   3/3, then 1/3.
Then he received honourable mention during the Best in Show judging.

The judges really like his bold eye and his head.    They fault him slightly on his forehead, but overall just like his head a great deal.  :)   They also always mention that they like his colour and coat.   He overall is just  a good boy to have around, THOUGH he is at the maximum weight allowed for his breed.   He balances well with Mittens and Rodney in my herd.

Removed from Front Page

5/11/2013

i had this up on my home page and have removed it as the new show season has begun.

Just back from the Rockton show.  November 17, 2012
I took five rabbits, four polish, one harlequin
William did 1/4 (BOSV), 2/4. 2/4 (his competition was a delightful broken black that was very pretty)
Petey did 6/6. 5/6. 6/6 - he's quite a young senior and the others had filled out better.
QT did 2/5. 3/5. 3/5 (she had some stiff competition - the top three positions were different each time)
and no one liked Keener at all today.  She got lots of good comments about her head, but her fur was absolutely horrid - splotchy and out of condition that she just wasn't in her best form.

I have just gotten back from the Dorchester Show.

Keener won best opposite polish for Show B
William won best opposite polish for Show A
and
Varia WON best polish for Show A

I'll have to update how the others did... but WOOT WOOT!!!   I'm quite pleased. :)

I have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years.  I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets.  I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards.
